Download & Execution Warnings on Windows
How to handle "Unknown Publisher" warnings and proceed with browsers and SmartScreen.
If warnings appear during download or execution on Windows
Because the publisher's code signature is not yet fully established, Microsoft Defender (SmartScreen), browsers, or security software like McAfeemay display warnings. This does not mean the app itself is malicious.
- When download stops in the browser (Edge, etc.): From the "..." or "Details" in the download list, choose Keep (action to continue download).
- When security software like McAfee stops it: Choose "Accept risk" or "Allow" to continue.
- When a blue screen appears after opening the installer (SmartScreen): Click More info, then choose Run anyway (or "Run").
The wording displayed may vary depending on the version of Windows or the browser.
When updates do not complete
When the app shows "A new version is available" and you choose "Update Now", the update may not finish due to administrator permission checks, security software, or locks by other processes.
In that case, exit the app, then download the latest installer from "Free Download" on the top page and overwrite install it. This usually replaces it with the latest version.
When "Already Installed" results in NSIS Error / Unable to uninstall!
If the installer tries to uninstall the previous version and fails due to security software or missing files, you may see "Error launching installer" followed by "Unable to uninstall!".
- First, choose "Do not uninstall" in the dialog. In most cases, the overwrite update will complete without issues.
- If it still doesn't proceed, completely exit the app, then uninstall "kizuna-desktop" from Windows Settings -> Apps -> Installed Apps, and run the latest installer again.
About Data:If you perform a normal "overwrite install" on the same PC and Windows user, the login state and local data (conversation history, etc.) saved by the app will basically remain. They may be lost if you uninstall from the Control Panel and choose "Delete data".
